37. The Neville-Lake Tragedy
Monday Jul 04, 2022
Monday Jul 04, 2022
On Sunday, September 27th of 2015 in Vaughan, Ontario a tragedy that would be completely avoidable and murderous, no matter how you look at it, occurred. A family was out for a drive, enjoying a beautiful day in the early fall in Southern Ontario. An entire family was torn apart in a moment because of the idiotic decision of one man. One man decided that he was ok to drive, even though he was not and he destroyed a family because of that decision and the reverberations of that decision.

On July 18th, 2018 a University of Iowa student would disappear, seemingly without a trace while she was home for the summer in her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa. For a month, police and everyone else were at a complete and utter loss as to what had happened to this young lady and there seemed to be no leads, no evidence and no trace of where, how and who else was involved in the disappearance. She sent a message to her boyfriend, went for a job and never returned home. This case is one that was solved because of technology, in the form of CCTV cameras. Today we will talk about what happened, who was behind it and the fallout when the truth was uncovered.

Imagine having a night out on the town that included having a blast at a local nightclub and visiting two house parties. That sounds like a great night to many people. Unfortunately for one young 21-year-old indigenous woman that kind of night would wind up being the last known night in her young life. She would leaver her parents home around 11pm in Nanaimo BC and she would sadly never be seen by them again. Even though she has not been seen or heard from since that harrowing night and even though police have never found a body, her disappearance is being treated as and investigated as, murder.

33. Bruce McArthur - Part 3
Monday Jun 06, 2022
Monday Jun 06, 2022
Between 2010 and 2017 at least eight men would go missing in and around Toronto’s Gay Village that would end up being a part of this case. Those eight disappearances, and their connection, for whatever reason, would fly under the radar of police who seemed to view most of these as just missing men who probably had reasons to go missing. Even though the community at large was certain that there was a serial killer in their midst, taking victims and making them disappear, police would whole-heartedly disagree. Even though the majority of the men that would eventually be tied to Bruce McArthur had many things in common, including age, ethnicity, background, and marginalized status, police either failed to accept that this was the work of one suspect, or multiple suspects working together, until it was far too late. This week we look at how everything FINALLY came together to investigate, capture and put that serial killer behind bars.

A total of eight men went missing from the Church and Wellesley area of Toronto. This area is known because it really does fall in the heart of the LGBT-oriented enclave within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The investigation into the disappearances has come under intense scrutiny over the years and would eventually lead to the arrest, charge and guilty plea of a 66 year old, self employed man from Toronto. The man is the most prolific KNOWN serial killer within Toronto and he is also the oldest known serial killer in Canada. In this episode, part 2 on Bruce McCarthur, we cover the victims that have been attributed to him and talk about their stories a little bit and their lives.

Bruce McArthur is a name that you likely know if you know a lot about True Crime in Canada. Bruce is known as the oldest known serial killer in Canadian history. This week, in part one, we will take a look at the early years of Bruce McArthur and the things that happened along the way to the crimes that he is more well known for. The interesting thing that you will discover is that the years that led up to Bruce becoming a serial killer are actually quite a bit different than the back-stories that you hear from others who wind up committing similar crimes. Bruce McArthur would end up being much older than most people are before something inside of him changed.

30. The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Monday May 16, 2022
Monday May 16, 2022
On the evening of May 3rd, 2007 a three year old girl went missing from her bed during the night while her family was on vacation at a resort in Praia da Luz in Portugal. This case has been described as the most heavily reported missing person case in modern history and to this day, 15 years later her whereabouts still remain unknown. German prosecutors believe that the young girl is certainly dead but her family, people that know the family and people who don’t know the family all continue to hold out hope that she is still alive. At the very least, we hope that all of the eyes and attention on this case now, so long after will ensure that regardless of the outcome, everyone involved will get a sense of closure in this case.

Monday May 09, 2022
September 3rd, 1985 was a cool fall day in Saint John, New Brunswick. It was the day after Labour Day and everyone was transitioning into back to school, back to work and back to cooler temperatures. In Saint John it was a very popular time as The Atlantic National Exhibition was taking place. The ANE is an annual fair that features art, crafts, horticulture, livestock exhibits, family entertainment and a midway. The ANE was filled with laughter, happiness and good times. Unfortunately though on this date things would take a turn for one person in particular that was at the fair and today, 37 years later it is still a night that is remembered with sadness, confusion and heartbreak.

On February 1st, 2010 a man received a call that his estranged wife had fallen from an overpass in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His wife and him had separated approximately a year before that call and they were embroiled in incredibly difficult divorce and custody proceedings regarding their two young children, 2 year old Connor and 10 month old Jayden. Unfortunately the day was fixing to get a lot more tragic, a lot sadder and a lot more sinister.

Gone, But Never Forgotten
GBNF is a True Crime Podcast that covers mostly Canadian stories. We cover murders, both solved and unsolved, missing person's cases and so much more. We also do Gone Travellin' episodes where we cover cases of true crime from other countries around the world.
You can follow along with our other "Goners" over on Patreon and support the pod at https://www.patreon.com/GBNFPodcast
At the end of every episode we like to share a #BeBetter story which are stories that are sent in by our listeners that show how people in the world around us go above and beyond to help out their fellow human beings. This is our way of giving some levity after some cases that are truly nothing but dark and dreary.
GBNF is written and produced by Lance Ryan and co-hosted by Lance and his lovely wife Julie Ryan.
